I tried to relax, but, predictably, ended up with something pretty high energy at the end. Totally forgot that I started with a PPJ song--so this one is a bookend of two PPJs.
After a first listen, I think most of the transitions are pretty strong. Probably Over & Over to Hot Plate Memoirs is my favorite, but Elastica to Get Down also is a real jive, and the transition to Neon Palm is definitely the longest, at a bit over 2 minutes. The last song, Contigo, has been making me tear up everytime I listen to it. After translating the lyrics, I figured out why.
I realized after saving this that I haven't practiced since July. That's simply too long! This "set" is very simple mixing, with only a couple mistakes, but limited creativity. It's basically just one track after another for two hours. I think it was mostly just me getting comfortable with it again--when I focus too much on the technicalities of mixing, I forget about the creative potential. Of which there is plenty. And the creative potential is the reason I do this in the first place. But, getting the basics right is imperative of any creative hobby.
Anyway, the vibe of this mix is basically pretty standard fare, at least up until I got tired of it around an hour and a half and so decided to switch it up, going from 132 bpm to 124 bpm with the excellent "Fire Papi." I just cannot get enough of that track. And I never know how to mix out of it! The set ends with one of my favorite remixes out there, and I usually mix into Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat", but I felt two hours was long enough. Besides, that song tends to make me tear up, and I also don't know what to follow it up with.
There are a couple parts I felt were pretty strong, but I can't remember exactly where right now so will have to come back after I re-listen to the whole thing.
